Fire Pits & Outdoor Fireplaces

Panorama builds custom fire pits and full outdoor fireplaces across Wilmington and New Castle County, in wood-burning and gas. A fire feature is the element that decides whether a patio gets used in October or sits empty from Labor Day, so it is worth building properly rather than dropping a steel ring on the lawn.

Wood-burning fireplaces get a real firebox, a correctly sized throat and flue, and a cap. Gas features are plumbed by a licensed fitter and tested before the stone closes up.

What the job includes

  • Poured footing sized for the structure
  • Firebrick-lined firebox on wood-burning builds
  • Correctly proportioned throat, smoke chamber, and flue
  • Gas line coordination and pressure testing where applicable
  • Stone or brick finish to match the house
  • Hearth, mantel, and wood storage where the design calls for it
  • Spark arrestor and cap

How we build it

  1. 01

    Placement

We site the feature for prevailing wind, clearance from the house and trees, and the way you want seating to face.

  2. 02

    Structure

Footing, block core, firebox, and flue. The parts nobody sees are the parts that make it draw properly and stay safe.

  3. 03

    Finish

Stone, caps, hearth, and a first burn with you there.

Common questions

Wood-burning or gas?

Gas lights instantly, makes no smoke, and needs a gas run. Wood costs less to build, throws more heat, and is what most people picture. We build both and have no preference beyond what suits your use.

How far does a fire pit need to be from the house?

Clearance depends on your municipality and on whether the feature is gas or wood-burning. We confirm the local requirement before we site it rather than after.

Why does my current outdoor fireplace smoke back?

Almost always a throat or flue that is undersized relative to the firebox opening, or a cap that is restricting draw. It is diagnosable and often fixable without a rebuild.
