Panorama builds paver and natural stone patios, walkways, and steps throughout Wilmington and New Castle County. The visible stone is the easy part. What decides whether a patio still sits flat in ten years is the excavation depth, the compacted aggregate base, and where the water goes, and that is where most of our labor actually goes.

We work in bluestone, clay brick, travertine, and manufactured pavers, and we will tell you honestly which one suits your grade, your budget, and the architecture of your house.

Grade and drainage first
Before we talk about stone we work out where water currently goes and where it needs to go instead.

Layout and material
We chalk the actual footprint on your yard so you can stand in it before we dig, then finalize stone and pattern.

Base, then stone
Excavate, build and compact the base in lifts, then set, cut, and joint the surface.

Common questions

How deep should a patio base be?

In our soil, six to eight inches of compacted aggregate under a foot-traffic patio, and more where the ground is clay or the patio carries vehicle load. Anything shallower is the reason patios heave.

Pavers or natural stone?

Pavers are more uniform, easier to repair, and usually less expensive. Natural bluestone has more character and suits older Wilmington homes better. Both last if the base is right.

Can you fix a patio that has already sunk?

Often yes. We lift the stone, correct the base and the pitch, and reset it. If the original excavation was far too shallow we will tell you that rebuilding is the better spend.
